Commissioned for the inaugural exhibition Nocturne, Valley of the Giants and Unbroken stand in dialogue as equal anchors of the show. Valley of the Giants—by Mari Hidalgo King and That They May Studio—transforms a three-acre sweep of Frisco’s Big Bluestem Trail into an immersive nocturnal landscape that commemorates the park before its redesign. Blending sculpture, sound, and motion, towering amorphous forms confront visitors with beauty, ambiguity, and awe. As ecological thresholds and migration pressures converge, a motor-like thrum engulfs and disorients, pulling your gaze upward and asking—friend or foe?—as you step into the unknown of traveling this valley of giants. Unbroken is an installation of light and movement that reads as a timeline—an unbroken path shaped by the choices, moments, and people who alter a life’s course. The twenty-two-foot steel work traces twenty-seven turns, honoring nine non-directed kidney donors who chose to save the life of a stranger. Together, these works chart the vertigo of uncertainty and the resolve to continue—what we carry, what we risk, and who we become in the dark.
